Introductory Pressure Points Seminar - 14th July 2002 - Croft Sports Hall - Swindon |
I was invited to attend this seminar by my old friend Keith Gardner who was organising
the seminar - he had arranged for Sensei Peter Holmes who is a 3rd Dan Tang
Soo Do - 2nd Dan Kick Boxing - 1st Dan Torite Jutsu and Former World Finalist
Kumite and Sensei Martyn Harris who is a 2nd Dan Ryukyu Karate Jutsu and Chief
Instructor of the Red Dragon Karate Institute and OCI Welsh Director - so i knew
it was going to be a good day. The plan for the day was for us to learn various other aspects of different martial arts styles and what ever else they had planned for us - the agenda was: Taking moves from the forms and patterns that we do - revolutionising our impact training - Going through some Striking and basic grappling applications - Explaining the pressure points involved and principles of movement - 5-element theory etc..... so we had more than enough to keep us going for the day. We started off working in pairs going through the various techniques that was demonstrated to us by the instructors and also working in groups of three and four going through pressure points (as this point i had never had much to do with pressure points) but i soon learned how many different pressure points there were on a human body and how effective they could be once applied - we also worked through a number of grappling and striking techniques which again were very good - belive me i felt it they next day when i woke up - plus most of my arms were covered in many many bruises for the many different applied techniques it looked like i had been beaten with large stick. I got to work with a lot of good people on the day and met many new friends at the seminar, and i can honestly say that i learnt a lot from that day - it certainly made me think about how effective this and many other of this style of martial arts were i decided to take up Jiu - Jitsu for myself - and have never regretted it since. The only downfall for the day was that it ended too soon - i am hoping that another will be organised in the near future by someone (hint - hint : ) I never got to see the video for the day that was taken nor any of the photos that i was promised - i will remember to take my own next time - but if you were there and do have any photos or the video for the day then it would be great to see it - because there was so much going on i forgot more than i remembered - so please e-mail me if you do have a copy. All in all an excellent day out if you ever get the chance to go to one of these seminars - see ya there ! Wayne Timlin 14th July 2002 |
